For our friends across the globe, here is the English version of this delightful recipe.

Vanilla Custard with Chocolate Liqueur

This elegant vanilla custard is a truly classic dessert, elevated with the rich, indulgent notes of chocolate liqueur. Its silky-smooth texture and the authentic flavour from a real vanilla pod make it a sophisticated treat that feels both comforting and special. It’s the kind of dessert that looks impressive but is surprisingly straightforward to prepare, making it perfect for dinner parties or a quiet, luxurious evening at home.

The beauty of this dish lies in its balance. The creamy, sweet custard provides the perfect canvas for the sharp, fresh taste of raspberries and blackberries, while a final drizzle of chocolate liqueur adds a layer of grown-up decadence. For a slight variation, try using an orange or coffee-flavoured liqueur to complement the vanilla in a different way, or add a pinch of freshly grated nutmeg to the cream mixture for an extra touch of warmth.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of double cream
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 vanilla pod
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup of caster sugar
  • Garnish:
  • Raspberries
  • Blackberries
  • Chocolate liqueur

Method

  1. Slice the vanilla pod lengthwise, scrape out the seeds, and add them to the cream.
  2. Gently heat the cream, milk, and vanilla seeds in a saucepan.
  3. In a food processor, blend the eggs, egg yolks, and sugar until smooth.
  4. With the processor still running, slowly pour the warm cream mixture into the egg and sugar blend.
  5. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve and pour into heatproof bowls or ramekins. Cover each with aluminium foil.
  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 150°C (300°F / Gas Mark 2) for about 30 minutes, or until just set.
  7. Serve garnished with fresh berries and a drizzle of chocolate liqueur.
